Our Guide To The Perfect Coronation Weekend

Our Guide To The Perfect Coronation Weekend

With King Charles III’s Coronation just around the corner, we’re looking forward to a long weekend of celebratory fun with friends and family.

The weekend will see a historic, maybe even once in a lifetime event take place, so if you’re planning on hosting a Coronation celebration at home, how should you make it a party to remember?

It’s time to hang the bunting, pull out your best dinnerware (you know, the set you keep for special occasions), maybe even light the BBQ (if the British weather permits) and shake a few drinks to celebrate a weekend like no other.

The celebrations are going to be spread over the course of the weekend, so some key times to remember are:

Saturday 6th May; The Coronation Morning

The King’s Coronation will take place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday 6th May at 11am after a short procession from Buckingham Palace.

This is a great opportunity to invite friends and family over for a breakfast celebration. Hang up the bunting, pull out your finest china and enjoy a cup of tea whilst watching the historic events unfold.

Some British tableware we’d love to see resplendent on our party table include:

Colagerie x The Conran Shop Cutlery

Originals London Place Name Cards

Maram Red, White and Blue Fabric Bunting

Fortnum & Mason Musical Coronation Biscuit Tin

Saturday 6th May; The After Party

It’s time to keep the celebrations going after the Coronation itself. If the weather holds out, we’ll be moving out into the garden and enjoying a few alfresco cocktails. If your neighborhood is hosting a street party, perhaps this would be a suitable time to share a toast with the neighbours or simply proffer a royal wave if you prefer!

Whatever the weather or setting, we’re sure to be sharing a few bottles of our Limited Edition Crown Martini with those nearest and dearest to us. Made using the incredible Hepple Gin and inspired by flavours from all across the British Isles including rhubarb, cucumber, rose and elderflower - it’s a cocktail worthy of such an occasion. The man of the hour, King Charles himself, even planted a juniper bush at the Hepple Estate back in 2018, making it the perfect tipple to celebrate his Coronation this May.

This cocktail is exclusively available at John Lewis in-stores and online. Shop here

Sunday 7th May; The Coronation Concert

The evening of Sunday 7th of May will see the Coronation Concert take place at Windsor Castle. The lineup spans from a 74 piece orchestra to Lionel Richie, so with such regal entertainment already provided, it’s the perfect time to host at home!

With the Coronation being something of a national event, we’d recommend invoking a dose of British spirit by inviting your guests to the most British of dinners… a finger buffet. Get your guests involved and ask them to bring their favourite British dish or drink, and enjoy the evening in the company of your friends and family, alongside too many sponge cakes, sausage rolls and scones.
