The Scorpion is a famous old-school Tiki drink from the Trader Vic’s Bartenders Book. For twenty-five years, professional barkeeps and home mixologists alike have found Trader Vic's Bartender's Guide an invaluable aid.
Trader Vic’s is a restaurant and tiki bar chain founded by Victor Jules Bergeron in 1934. He opened his first restaurant in Oakland, San Francisco and served Polynesian food with a mix of Chinese, Fresh and American dishes cooked in wood-fired ovens but he is best known for the rum-based cocktails he created!
The Scorpion originally has its beginnings back in the 1930s in a little bar in Honolulu called The Hut, where some unnamed barkeep poured rum, citrus, orgeat syrup and brandy over ice, garnished with orange and dubbed it ‘Scorpion’. Trader Vic picked up the recipe a decade or so later, tweaked it a sufficiently and it is now served in Tiki bars all over the world.
